Extensions of O-1 Status

Initial O-1 sponsorship can be requested for up to three years, and can be extended in one-year increments as long as the beneficiary continues to work in the field of extraordinary ability and can document continued achievement in the field.

The beneficiary must be physically present in the U.S. at the time of filing of the O-1 extension petition.  Host department should initiate the O-1 extension process with OVIS 4-6 months prior to the expiration of the current O-1 petition expiration.
