Overview
Specialists are experts in a field of specialized knowledge or who are coming to Dartmouth for observing, consulting or demonstrating their special skills. Dartmouth will sometimes use this category for visiting artists, coaches, and foreign language assistants, among other specialized roles.
The Specialist may not fill a permanent or long-term position of employment while in the United States.
The minimum period of stay is three weeks. The maximum period of stay is one year.
Maintenance of Status
- Must pursue the stated objective of the J-1 program listed on the Form DS-2019
- Maintain a valid passport
- Must have sufficient insurance coverage for the entire duration of stay
- Notify OVIS of any change of address and/or telephone number within 10 days of the change.
Request an extension or transfer of the J-1 program before the current program expires, as listed on the Form DS-2019.
